These two little known or read New Testament letters have a couple of
curly questions that can arise: what is all that stuff about the
archangel Michael disputing with the devil over the body of Moses (in
Jude), and is the Bible in favour of slavery (in Philemon)?

The major issue of this little letter is to defend the true faith in the face of false teachers who have slipped in among the people. Jude makes a series of four charges about these people:
- the Scriptures condemn them
- they are godless (or impious)
- they change God's grace into a license for immorality
- they deny Jesus as our only Sovereign and Lord (v4)
The citation of Michael vs the Devil re Moses is a citation of an apocryphal book,
The Assumption of Moses. The point being made in all of this is that even Michael refused to overstep his proper boundaries and take the place of God in judging evil…
