What things are you looking forward to in 2008?

As we go through this life, there are moments that changes us, things that define who we are. Sometimes certain events in our lives can make us feel like life can never be the same again – either in a positive or a negative way.

The first 3 chapters of the Bible which we have started the year looking at, Genesis 1-3, show us the events that altered not only the lives of Adam & Eve, but the course of human history. The things that happened meant that humanity was kicked out of the garden of Eden forever – life would never be the same again. Sin and death entered the world. These events so dramatically altered all human life that it would take nothing less than God's own Son to undo the damage. Jesus did what Adam & Eve could not – he lived a perfectly obedient life. And yet he took the judgement upon himself that was the result of human rebellion. Jesus died so that we might be able to live forever in that paradise that we were created for, that perfect existence with God and with one another and with all of creation. Restoration is possible for all those who trust in Jesus – in his life death and resurrection.

As we begin another year, let that event be the one that determines who we are, that changes our life forever.
